Organix South Introduces TheraNeem Herbal Toothpaste:
A Natural Gum Care Solution with the Power of Neem!

Clearwater, Florida (February 14, 2005) – Organix-South, Inc. introduces TheraNeem Herbal Toothpaste, a unique and powerful oral care formula containing active botanicals such as supercritical extracts of Neem Bark and Leaf, Grape seed, Clove, Fennel and other plants for maximum support of healthy gums and teeth. Formulated with great care to address problem areas in the mouth, the mint flavored product also leaves the breath fresh and teeth gleaming white. According to Autumn Blum, a cosmetic chemist who also serves the company as President, “This toothpaste contains a LOT of Neem bark because I wanted it to be really effective. So many products fall short of really keeping the mouth healthy. You will see by its brown color that it means BUSINESS!” Avoiding the common “unnatural” ingredients of traditional toothpaste, the company does not use lauryl sulfate, saccharin, parabens, artificial colors, artificial flavors or fluoride and guarantees that there are no animal by-products or testing. TheraNeem Herbal Toothpaste is step one of a three phase Oral Care System developed by Organix-South that includes TheraNeem Mouthwash and internal supplementation with TheraNeem Leaf Supercritical Extract to provide consumers with best results. The four ounce tube retails for approximately $7.49 and is safe for children, diabetics and pets!

Commonly known in India as the “Toothbrush Tree”, Neem has traditionally been used in India and southern Asia as the preferred method for maintaining healthy teeth and gums. The bark and the sap within the twig are known not only for their cleaning ability but also for protecting the mouth. Such is its prominence in Indian society, that many researchers believe that these Neem twigs have helped rural Indians avoid cavities, despite limited access to modern dental care. Scientific research supports that Neem bark extract can reduce the ability of some streptococci to colonize tooth surfaces (Wolinsky, et al, 1996 and Patel and Venkatakrishna, 1988). In addition, the regular use of Neem toothpaste and mouthwash were shown to prevent or even reverse gingivitis (Elvin-Lewis, 1980).

Organix-South, Inc. specializes in NEEM products that address a growing need for natural, therapeutic skin and body care. Each product is scientifically formulated to optimize NEEM’s therapeutic benefits in a gentle delivery system. Organix-South offers the most complete line of NEEM products available; including Neem Leaf capsules and extracts, oral care, shampoo, conditioner, nail treatment, facial mask, bar soaps with up to 20% Neem oil, skin care, pet products and more. Products are available at health food stores, pharmacies and other fine outlets. For more information, see http://www.organixsouth.com.

Organix-South announces the launch of TheraNeem Organix Hair Therapé Line., an innovative hair care line that offers intensely therapeutic hair and scalp benefits. Neem... the solution for healthy hair and scalps!
Q: What are some of the beneficial constituents found in Neem that support healthy hair, scalp and skin?
Around 180 chemical compounds have been isolated from Neem bark, leaf and oil. Neem contains potent antioxidants that help protect the body from oxidative damage caused by the environmental toxins and stress. Neem contains 1000 parts per million (ppm) quercetin, among the highest concentration found in plants tested for the phytochemical and ethnobotanical databases developed by Dr. James Duke. Quercetin is well known for its actions as an antioxidant and for supporting the body’s ability to respond to inflammation. Neem leaf, bark and oil contain powerful antioxidants including carotenes, ascorbic acid, terpenoids, limonoids and flavonoids [1]. Additionally, b-Carotene and vitamin C present in neem leaf play an important role in its radical scavenging properties. Nimbin and nimbidin have antiviral and antifungal properties. Gedumin in Neem leaf is noted for its antifungal actions.
*[1]Akhila, A; Rani K. Fortschr. Chem. Org. Naturst., 1999, 78, 47.

Q: In a plain language, what will Neem leaf and oil do for me?
A: Neem is: cooling, soothing and astringent. Cooling - it helps to cool and calm the skin, scalp, gums or wherever it is applied. Soothing - it has been used for thousands of years to support healthy skin and is traditionally used to help normalize irritated, rough or exceptionally dry skin. Astringent - this means it helps to tighten tissue, helping to normalize, balance and promote youthful and healthy skin and scalp.

Q: Are the ingredients in your original formula still the same?
A: Yes, the Original Formula (now called Gentle Therapé) has been such a success for our company, with hundreds of testimonials, many requesting that we ‘never change our formula.’ I have listened to our loyal customers and have not changed the formula. This formula is still perfect for all hair types and sensitive scalps.

Q: Why did you formulate each of the new hair therapé products?
A: I wanted to create the most therapeutic hair and scalp care line available today. So many people are challenged by sensitive or difficult hair and scalp issues. They need a product that is specific to their hair type as well as beneficial to their scalp. Our new TheraNeem Organix Hair Therapé line is hair type specific and all of our formulas are created to greatly benefit the hair and scalp with concentrated Neem oil and Neem leaf along with organic herbal extracts and essential oils. No other hair care line offers as much Neem power!

Q: What does it mean to offer highly concentrated Neem and organic herbal extracts?
A: Some common brands of shampoos and conditioners only use a very low concentration of herbal extracts, if any at all, in their hair care. TheraNeem Organix offers 45-48% organic herbal extracts with Neem oil and Neem leaf in every formula.

Q: What are the primary advantages of the new Hair Therapé line?
A: It is made with high concentrations organic ingredients.
The ingredients comply with the Whole Foods Premium Bodycare Standard.

Safe for Color-Treated Hair

Paraben Free/Sulfate Free

All formulas Gluten-Free

pH Balanced

Vegan

Neem is a potent antioxidant to better protect your scalp.

Q: What is the main difference for TheraNeem Organix Hair Therapé compared to other hair care products?
A: I formulated the hair care line to offer highly concentrated, therapeutic and organic ingredients. All of the Hair Therapé products are created for sensitive and/or challenged scalps. Each of the herbs, essential oils and other ingredients were selected to be highly effective for specific hair types.
Q: Why are your shampoos thinner than most?
A: All of our shampoos are thinner so that the intensely therapeutic ingredients can better penetrate the hair and scalp and provide nourishing benefits Other shampoos use added salt -- which can be drying -- or waxy emulsifiers that weigh down hair to thicken their products. You will still have a luxurious lather, but your hair won’t suffer needlessly.

Q: How are the formulas unique?
A: The base ingredients are the same for each blend. However, the percentages are a bit different. For example, Volumizing Therapé is intended for those with normal to oily hair. There is a higher percentage of cleansing surfactants in Volumizing Therapé than in the Moisture Therapé. Moisture Therapé has a higher percentage of proteins to enrich the hair, while still supporting the scalp. Scalp Therapé has a slightly different pH to help balance the scalp, without stripping the hair. Kid’s Therapé is a bit more cleansing, as kids tend to get dirtier than adults. Of course, the surfactants I chose to work with are very gentle, even at higher concentrations.

Q: What sets each formula apart from each other?

TheraNeem Organix Gentle Therapé Shampoo & Conditioner - AKA Original Formula.
Same great formulas - new & improved look.

TheraNeem Organix Moisture Therapé Shampoo & Conditioner -
Intensely hydrating & repairing for dry, damaged hair & scalp. Helps repair & seal in essential nutrients for dehydrated hair that has been damaged by environmental overexposure and product use. Concentrated panthenol and rice protein provide extra moisture help to reduce static. Seaweed adds a nice "slip" to the hair and replaces the use of ingredients such as silicon found in many mainstream brands.
TheraNeem Organix Kid’s Therapé Shampoo/Bodywash & Conditioner -
Extra Gentle for Sensitive Eyes, Skin, Hair & Scalps - Nourish & care for your little one’s sensitive skin, hair & scalp. No lidocaine or numbing agents. A higher concentration of Neem for more Neem protection.
TheraNeem Organix Volumizing Therapé Shampoo & Conditioner -
Intensely uplifting for limp or fine hair. Lighter, more cleansing for oily or heavy/limp hair. Formulated with herbs that revitalize the scalp and boost hair growth for people facing hair loss.
TheraNeem Organix Scalp Therapé Shampoo & Conditioner -
For intense scalp relief, repair & rejuvenation - The star of the line for scalp issues. Feel the tingle! It feels great and is ideal for those with hair loss to stimulate the scalp. Stimulating & clarifying to reduce excess build-up & detoxify hair & scalp.

Q: What are some of the new ingredients that you are using in the formulas?
A: We use a beet sugar based surfactant (lactic acid from beets, not milk) that is actually rated in Japan as a humectant that adds moisture. This means that while our shampoos are cleansing, they also are ultra moisturizing and gentle.
•	We also use hydrolyzed rice protein for added hair conditioning.
•	We are pleased to offer a 100% gluten free line for our sensitive customers.
Q: I am used to salon-quality shampoo and conditioners, how do yours compare?
A: The new formulas are focused on the more sophisticated consumers in health food stores - those who want salon-quality products, but are still careful about their ingredients. And of course, I did not want to lose the initial intent of supporting scalp health. The new formulas are ‘greener’ as there are more ingredients available today. I also optimized each blend for different hair types, including other supportive herbs along with nourishing Neem.
Q: Is your Kids Therapé Shampoo and Bodywash safe for infants?
A: Yes, it was formulated to be extremely gentle, yet effective for children and infants.
Q: Is your Kids Therapé Shampoo and Bodywash tear free?
A: Yes, it is very gentle on the eyes. During formulation, it was repeatedly tested for its eye friendliness.
Q: I heard that Neem is safe and effective to use with lice?
A: We do not offer any ‘pesticides’ in our product line, as that would require EPA registration and animal testing. With that said, there is a vast amount of reliable information documenting Neem’s effectiveness in controlling insects and parasites. One of the growing problems with all forms of pesticides is that the “bugs” have become resistant to the active ingredients in over-the-counter drugs such as lindane lotion, Permethrin (Nix) rinse, and Malathion (Prioderm) 0.5%. There are 6 to 12 million cases of head lice in the United States every year, more often seen in children than adults.

TheraNeem® support for kids over 2 years old and adults:

For more intensive hair and scalp care:

Massage the scalp with 3-4 droppers full of our cold pressed Neem oil (enough oil to saturate hair and scalp). For longer or really thick hair add the 3-4 droppers full of Neem oil to TheraNeem® Scalp Therapé Shampoo, Kids Therapé Shampoo and BodyWash or olive oil to help extend the neem oil and to completely coat and saturate the hair and scalp with Neem. Massage vigorously into hair and scalp for 1-2 minutes.

Leave the Neem oil combined with TheraNeem® Shampoo or olive oil on hair and scalp for 1 hour.

Cover hair with a shower cap or old towel.

Comb through hair while the oil is still in the hair to remove any “undesirables”.

Wash hair again with TheraNeem® Shampoo, allowing the shampoo to “rest” on the hair and scalp for 3-5 minutes. Finish by leaving a small amount of TheraNeem® Conditioner on hair as a leave-in conditioner.

Repeat this process for up to 3 days, or as needed.

You can also try adding 10-20 drops of organic lavender essential oils per application to help soothe and support healthy scalp and hair.

Repeat for 3 days or as needed.

For moderate hair and scalp care:

Add 3-4 drops of Neem oil to TheraNeem® shampoo, or add 3-4 drops of Neem oil to olive oil. Use enough shampoo or olive oil to completely coat hair and scalp. Massage vigorously into hair and scalp for 1-2 minutes.

Follow above steps 2-6 above for best results.

For scent sensitive children or for children under 2:

Use TheraNeem® shampoo to fully coat and saturate the hair and scalp, or try organic olive oil only, or mayonnaise. Massage vigorously into hair and scalp for 1-2 minutes.

Follow above steps 2-6 above for best results.

For a “quick fix” that smells great-spray our Herbal Outdoor Spray liberally directly to scalp and massage thoroughly. Leave on hair and re-apply 2-3 times per day to help get rid of “undesirables” and to soothe an occasional irritation.

Herbal Outdoor Spray is concentrated, water-based spray with neem and essential oils to support a healthy scalp.

Safe for the whole family and with kids over 2. Avoid contact with eyes.

Neem oil and dogs:

To help manage skin and coat issues use undiluted Neem oil (3-4 drops), directly applied to skin and coat 1-2 times per day.

For occasional redness or irritation: Apply undiluted Neem oil where the skin is irritated.

For itching: Apply the undiluted Neem oil to hard to reach areas so that it is difficult to lick off; behind the ears, under the haunches, and under the tail.

For intensive soothing support, add an extra dropper full (20-30 drops) of neem oil to the amount of TheraNeem® shampoo you will be using to bathe your dog. This additional neem oil will knock down the lather of the shampoo, but it will still clean well. The additional Neem oil is especially beneficial for dogs whose skin is red or irritated by providing cooling and soothing actions.

For dogs over 15 pounds, 1 supercritical neem capsule a day for 5 days with food. Use the 1 TheraNeem® leaf capsule per day if longer use is desired, for maximum of 1 month or as directed by your veterinarian.

For dogs, you may also spray their bedding with the Neem herbal Outdoor spray.

For cats:

For your feline friends, you can apply 3-4 drops of undiluted neem oil around their ears, in their armpits, under their tails and haunches. Undiluted Neem oil (3-4 drops) can be applied to support healthy skin and coat and with occasional skin issues.

Do not use Herbal Outdoor Spray on cats!

All suggestions for Neem oil are for topical use only. If irritation persists, consult with your veterinarian.

Wash your pets bedding as listed below.

For the laundry:
For the below - you can also use our Neem oil for the Garden.

Wash everything! Bedding, pillows, couch cushion covers etc… Premix 1/2 oz of Neem oil with your liquid laundry detergent, add to hot water. Once the tub is full, add your clothes or bedding – wash once, don’t dry. Re-wash with your regular detergent. Dry on high heat.

If any “aroma of Neem” remains in your washer, try the following. Add 20-30 drops of pure lemon or orange essential oil to a rag with a small amount of regular liquid laundry detergent. Wipe down the inside of your washing machine with the rag with the soap and essential oils to absorb any neem residue. Wash an empty load on HOT setting with 1 cup of baking soda and your regular detergent. Repeat the wiping of the inside of the machine with orange or lemon essential oil on a rag if needed. This should eliminate any reside of the neem oil.

You can also try adding Citra-Solve to an empty load or using a rag to wipe the inside of your washing machine. Follow the manufactures recommendations if using Citra-Solve.

For mattresses, furniture, and couch cushions:

After testing in a non-conspicuous area for staining, spray with Herbal Outdoor Spray. Once it dries, vacuum thoroughly to pick up “undesirables”.

For the rug:

Fill a quart size jar with diatomaceous earth (3/4 jar) & baking soda (1/4 jar). Add 30 drops each of the following essential oils:

Lemongrass 30 drops,

Tea Tree 30 drops

Eucalyptus globulus 30 drops.

Shake well to disperse the essential oils. Sprinkle liberally on all carpets and rugs and allow to “rest” for at least 4 hours.

This protocol is non- toxic to humans, however it is important to keep your pets out of the room (especially cats) as this concentration of essential oils is not good for their health to walk on or breathe. They will hate the smell too!

Vacuum up all of the earth, baking soda and essential oils. Repeat as needed

Or rent a rug shampooer, instead of recommended shampoo – use TheraNeem shampoo (or even TheraNeem pet shampoo).

Neem: A Centuries-Old Remedy for Problem Skin & Hair

A tree native to Southeast Asia, Neem (Azadirachta indica) is known as “the village pharmacy” in tropical regions where it is grown. It is a cornerstone of Ayurveda, one of the world’s oldest medical systems, and has been used as a medicinal herb for nearly 5,000 years. Neem oil, leaf and bark are used externally for skin, scalp and hair; only the leaf and bark are used for internal supplementation.

With more than 180 separate compounds, neem has multiple properties that help rejuvenate hair and scalp while protecting them from ongoing damage. With extraordinarily high levels of antioxidants – up to hundreds of times more concentrated than those found in blueberries or broccoli – neem helps protect the skin from environmental damage.

Neem oil is rich in essential fatty acids, like those found in sea buckthorn oil, that nourish and balance problem skin. The natural oils and glycerides quickly and easily penetrate outer layers of skin to soothe even chronically dry, itchy or flaking areas like psoriasis and eczema. Neem oil is the next big “it” in skin care and for preventing the signs of aging. Many consumers are aware of the importance of essential fatty acids and anti-oxidants for the health benefits internally and externally. Neem oil contains both potent anti-oxidants and is rich in essential fatty acids; Neem is the perfect skin cocktail for soothing wrinkles and fine lines while helping to prevent the signs of aging when used regularly. It has been traditionally used to even out skin tone irregularities, helping to balance and restore proper skin pigmentation for issues such as vitiligo or age spots.

Neem is an ideal herb for acne-prone skin because it can help to soothe irritation and inflammation, clear up pimples and remove un-desired levels of bacteria on the skin that can cause more break-outs.

Neem is the ideal plant for mature skin, oily skin, dry or acne-prone conditions. Few plants are considered to be as important a panacea or “cure all” for many skin conditions. Neem is fondly referred to as the village pharmacy for this reason.

Finally, neem leaf, bark and oil are packed with anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and anti-viral properties. Neem leaf is rich in naturally occurring Quercetin, which is well known as a compound that supports the body’s ability to respond to inflammation. Neem leaf and bark are also well documented for their immune-boosting compounds that protect against noncystic acne without drying skin – a particularly important consideration for all skin types.

In Ayurveda, Neem is considered cooling, soothing and astringent: Cooling because it helps to cool and calm the skin, scalp, gums or wherever it is applied; Soothing because it has been used for thousands of years to support healthy skin and is traditionally used to normalize irritated, rough or exceptionally dry skin or scalp; Astringent because it helps to tighten skin or scalp tissue normalize, balance and promote youthful and healthy skin. One might consider Neem in the common three-step skin system of cleanse, tone and moisturize -- Neem is all three in one!

Some of the constituents in Neem that are important to healthy skin, scalp and hair include:

Catechin: anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatoryCyclic tetrasulfide: anti-fungalEpicatechin: anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatoryGallic acid: anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatoryGedunin: anti-fungalMargolone: anti-bacterialMahmoodin: anti-bacterialNimbin: anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-histamineNimbidin: anti-fungal, analgesicPolysaccharides: anti-inflammatoryQuercetin: exerts strong anti-inflammatory activity by inhibiting both the manufacture and release of histamine and other allergic/inflammatory mediators.Sodium nimbinate: anti-inflammatory

While neem is often used for problematic skin and scalp, it also has potent anti-aging properties that help revitalize skin, restore a youthful glow to dry or rough skin, reduce fine lines and balance skin tone. Neem cream and lotion also are great for sunburns, after-snow treatments and for general skin and facial care.

What is Neem like?
Certified-organic and ethically wild-crafted Neem oil and Neem leaf extracts are commonly likened to tea tree essential oil for their broad-spectrum actions. However Neem oil is cold-pressed and not distilled, so it is not as drying or irritating as tea tree oil can be. All forms of Neem are soothing and nourishing to the skin and scalp. Neem leaf has a mild aroma and can be taken internally as a dietary supplement or applied topically. Neem bark has even more antioxidants than the leaf and oil. It also is an excellent exfoiliant that can be used in a masque to pull out the impurities and tighten pores. Neem oil has a rich, nutty, garlic-like aroma that smells like food but it is the most concentrated of the three neem products and is only used for external applications.

Depending upon the issue, using Neem leaf or bark internally can boost the efficacy of lotions, creams, shampoo and soap. Supplementing internally helps improve the appearance of skin by boosting overall immune system activity, enhancing liver function, strengthening a healthy digestive system and supporting the body’s ability to respond to minor inflammation.

Supercritical Extract of Neem Bark
By Trinity Ava
For thousands of years, the mighty Neem tree has been considered the “village pharmacy,” as many different parts of the tree have been used for addressing the common ailments of humans, pets and gardens. Neem leaf has often been a first choice for healthcare practitioners and researchers, in large part because it's easy to harvest and available year-round. Neem leaf is particularly suited for acute & skin conditions, but also because it has higher levels of important flavonoids like quercetin and rutin. Traditionally, Neem bark has been used for topical applications, however within recent times, we are witnessing significant results to support the internal supplementation with Neem bark.
•	First, one of several clinical studies conducted with Neem looks how Neem bark specifically taken internally helps to moderate levels of stomach acid. This is obviously an issue for people who suffer from gastrointestinal issues, but may also be an important consideration for people who take pain medications like aspirin or ibuprofen.
•	Secondly, Neem bark contains higher levels of nimbidin, which reduces production of nitric oxides and prostaglandins, making it a better choice for people and pets with minor inflammation.
•	Finally, Neem bark contains higher levels of some key antioxidants, including catechin and gallo-catechin as well as having a higher ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) value than Neem leaf.

If you're still not sure which is best, you can use both Neem leaf and Neem bark extracts – just divide the recommended dose in half because they do have many compounds in common.
Supercritical Extract of Neem Bark Actions:
•	Protects the integrity of stomach functions and balances gastric acid secretions.
•	Strengthens the body’s ability to respond to minor inflammation
•	Contains high levels of antioxidants, including Quercetin
•	Has astringent and tightening properties promote healthy teeth and gums.
Neem bark capsules offer a highly concentrated (50:1) extract of organic Neem bark in a tiny, easy-to-swallow capsule. Supercritical extraction increases the potency and purity of extracts, using natural carbon dioxide (the same thing that makes water fizzy) to create a pure, highly concentrated extract with no solvent residue. Studies indicate that Neem bark provides significant protection to soothe your stomach and promote balanced gastric secretions and digestion. It also is traditionally used to promote oral health and to help the body respond to minor inflammation.
Contraindications: Use with caution for those with liver disease, those taking blood thinners and for those who tend to run cold (Vata), as it is a cooling herb. Not intended for use with those who have signs of wasting and debility. Individuals with blood sugar imbalances should consult a healthcare professional prior to using neem and check blood sugar levels at least daily while taking it internally. Consult a health care practitioner prior to use if you have diabetes and/or autoimmune disease. Use with caution for those with liver disease or those taking blood thinners.
•	If you have a medical condition or take pharmaceutical drugs, please consult with your health care practitioner before using this product.
•	Side effects: Neem leaf extracts are generally considered very safe at recommended intake levels with no significant reports of problems when used appropriately. Not considered an herb for long term use as a single herb if taken in high amounts use due to its cooling and bitter properties.
•	Safety: There are no known drug-herb interactions
Suggested Use: One to two capsules with a full glass of water at room temperature daily as a dietary supplement.
Clinical studies on the effect of Neem (Azadirachta indica) bark extract on gastric secretion and gastroduodenal ulcer. Bandyopadhyay U, Biswas K, Sengupta A, Moitra P, Dutta P, Sarkar D, Debnath P, Ganguly CK, Banerjee RK.Department of Physiology, Indian Institute of Chemical Biology, 4, Raja S. C. Mullick Road, Kolkata, 700032, India. ubandyo_1964@yahoo.com
We have shown earlier that Neem (Azadirachta indica) bark aqueous extract has potent antisecretory and antiulcer effects in animal models and has no significant adverse effect (Bandyopadhyay et al., Life Sciences, 71, 2845-2865, 2002). The objective of the present study was to investigate whether Neem bark extract had similar antisecretory and antiulcer effects in human subjects. For this purpose, a group of patients suffering from acid-related problems and gastroduodenal ulcers were orally treated with the aqueous extract of Neem bark. The lyophilised powder of the extract when administered for 10 days at the dose of 30 mg twice daily caused a significant (p < 0.002) decrease (77%) in gastric acid secretion. The volume of gastric secretion and its pepsin activity were also inhibited by 63% and 50%, respectively. Some important blood parameters for organ toxicity such as sugar, urea, creatinine, serum glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase, serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase, albumin, globulin, hemoglobin levels and erythrocyte sedimentation rate remained close to the control values. The bark extract when taken at the dose of 30-60 mg twice daily for 10 weeks almost completely healed the duodenal ulcers monitored by barium meal X-ray or by endoscopy. One case of esophageal ulcer (gastroesophageal reflux disease) and one case of gastric ulcer also healed completely when treated at the dose of 30 mg twice daily for 6 weeks. The levels of various blood parameters for organ toxicity after Neem treatment at the doses mentioned above remained more or less close to the normal values suggesting no significant adverse effects. Neem bark extract thus has therapeutic potential for controlling gastric hypersecretion and gastroesophageal and gastroduodenal ulcers.PMID: 15454339 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE]
