Male Order: Thera Neem Botanical Fading Cream

Posted by Jimmy

I first starting using Thera Neem’s Botanical Fading Cream the first week of January and I’ve been excited to write about it for more than a month. The reason I’m writing now? Packaging directs significant results will be observed after twelve weeks. I started noticing merely two weeks into it.

I actually regret not taking a “before/after” photo as I can confidently say this cream works. Not only have my friends commented on my skin but I have noticed a substantial difference. One clear example is that my cheeks flush red when I drink (you know, that whole Asian thing) and the dark spots and pigmentation on my skin are embarrassingly amplified when I’m flushed. Lately it’s been very minimal. Not anything I’ve tried in the past has had an impact on this kind of scale. With that said, I’ve been referring to the Fading Cream as a “miracle in a bottle.” It’s a pretty big statement, I know, but I stand behind one-hundred percent.

The Botanical Fading Cream is a blend of botanical extracts and aqueous extracts of neem (see my post on Thera Neem’s Shaving and Complexion Botanical Bar to keep you up to speed on neem). As an organic ingredient and strong antioxidant, it helps prevent skin damage by combating free radicals. It’s completely natural and helps diminish fine lines, pigmentation, scarring, sun spots, age spots and more. The high concentration of neem in the fading cream really hits home. It also contains aloe gel (which we know also helps reduce scarring (I remember when I was in college, I had received a pretty bad cut on my arm and the scar was insanely prominent. I applied aloe vera gel on it twice a day and the scar is no longer visible). If you read through the ingredients, you’ll notice the fading cream is packed with other ingredients your skin will find delicious: sunflower oil (fights acne and retains moisture in skin); jojoba oil (antibacterial and helps flow of sebum); avocado oil (moisturizing)… the list goes on.

Needless to say, I’m quite impressed. It goes on smooth and the scent is actually all natural and non-chemically (such as some microdermabrasions). It actually smells like the concoction of inclusive ingredients, if that makes any sense. It’s so rich and slightly creamy that it can be used alone as a moisturizer if you have normal skin (however, I suggest using SPF during the day… you don’t want to defeat the whole purpose of the fading cream).

Another “miracle” aspect of the botanical fading cream? It’s only $23.95.

20 top supplements
January 28, 2010
By: Laurie Budgar

BRAIN HEALTH
Ongoing research shows that supplements can affect many brain functions, from mood to cognition.

Bacopa
An Ayurvedic plant traditionally used to stimulate memory, bacopa is also known as Brahmi. “The herb has shown some possible anti-anxiety effects,” says Blumenthal, but published clinical trial evidence for that use is limited, he emphasizes.
How it works: Bacopa seems to lessen the effects of oxidative stress and prevent brain-cell death, researchers note.
What’s new: Studies in 2008 and 2009 showed that bacopa may help protect against Alzheimer’s disease. People who took 300 mg daily of bacopa also had improved working memory and lower incidences of depression and anxiety. Organix South, a Bowling Green, Fla.-based company, includes bacopa in its new Sleep Ease formula.
From LoveToKnow Herbs With so many people suffering from insomnia, herbal sleep aids are a tempting remedy. LoveToKnow recently spoke with Trinity Ava, Director of Education and Herbalist for Organix-South. An accomplished herbalist and educator, Trinity works with Organix-South's neem and herbal-based products and teaches herbalism courses at Bastyr University and the California School of Herbal Studies. Trinity shares some background about Organix-South's newest product, an herbal blend called TheraVeda Sleep Ease, and herbal sleep remedy to help you catch a good night's sleep.

Herbal Sleep Aids
First, we asked Trinity for more information on TheraVeda Sleep Ease and Stress Ease, two herbal blends touted as sleep and stress relieving herbal remedies.

Tell us a little about Sleep Ease and Stress Ease.
TheraVeda® Sleep Ease and Stress Ease formulas may be used separately or together, with your individual response to them setting the rule for when they should be used. Many individuals who struggle with sleep issues find that taking adaptogens, like Ashwagandha and Shatavari, during the day can be an effective preventive action that prepares their body for sleep at night. People who need additional focus to accomplish daily objectives may take Brahmi and Jatamansi during the day. These formulas may be used for three to six months continuously (taking one week off per month). Both formulas are designed to be fast-acting so that most people will experience results within 15 to 30 minutes.
Just for Men
By Laurel House & Melissa B. Williams

When it comes to skincare men tend to take little notice. Well guess what guys, your skin deserves a little love once in a while! But don’t just go to the drug store and pick up any old soap, lotion or cleanser; there are several companies that cater to your skin’s specific criteria, including the side effects of shaving (or not), preference against flowery scents, and oil-free options. Here are a few of the best:

Organix South Men’s Shaving & Complexion Botanical Cleansing Bar has all of the necessary ingredients to satisfy a man—it was formulated by a chemist, and is rich with shea butter, neem (which in addition to nourishing dry skin protects the skin from free radicals) and oakmoss to calm skin and minimize irritation. Focusing brainpower with ayurvedic herbs
By Lisa Poisso

Photo credit: scataudo, SXC Fall weather simply begs for curling up on the couch with a snuggly blanket, a thick paperback, a steaming mug of something rich and comforting, and a willingness to lose track of time (and consciousness). Of course, if you suffer from trouble winding down for a good night's rest, the scenario may be closer to an exhausted collapse during what should be the peak of a productive day.

If your upcoming holiday schedule bears any resemblance to mine—relatives from every time zone snoozing on every couch, spare bed and peaceful corner—you'll want to make sure you're well-rested beforehand. I've been trying something new to help quiet the wheels inside my brain long enough for me to relax, and by jove, I think I may be onto something! Ayurvedic (that's traditional Indian medicine) herbal supplements called adaptogens propose to increase your body's resistance to stress, trauma, anxiety and fatigue. I've been sampling two different supplements from Organix-South, Sleep Ease and Stress Ease. Both purport to have non-sedative effects that take the edge off stress, balance burnout and combat brain fog—oh, and they help you relax enough to get to sleep, too. You can even take both supplements in a complementary fashion.

Is it the placebo effect, or do these supplements really pack a punch? After reviewing the ingredients (EcoCert certified organic herbs and vegetarian capsules), I'm not so sure that it matters. A review of research doesn't turn up anything that would raise any eyebrows. Manufacturing and production standards appear impeccable. The company itself demonstrates admirable social responsibility. The fact that taking the supplements gives me a proactive way to take care of myself may be the key ... It's food for thought, and my brain is certainly feeling fed.

I think I'm going to have to sleep on it

The dangers that hid in our children’s bath products.

Yes, will the worries ever cease… it seems not, because after researching new bath products for our kids I not only discovered some potential candidates, but also reasons to worry.

It seems there are some serious, and harmful, chemical “monsters” lurking in far too many children’s bath products. This includes the most common products we all used on our babies (and often continue to use) – Johnson & Johnson, Gerber, Baby Magic and L’Oreal – all are major offenders.

And the two scariest ingredients, you ask? They are 1,4-dioxane and formaldehyde (doesn’t THAT one conjure up some horrible images?). Both are known carcinogens and unbelievably harsh on the skin, especially for young children.

1,4-dioxane is common in personal care products as a foaming agent. Of course the ingredients won’t actually list it under this name, so avoid ingredients called sodium laureth sulfate, PEG-100 stearate, polyethylene, myreth, oleth and ceteareth-20.

Formaldehyde comes into play when common preservatives (like parabens) used in the bath products release formaldehyde but, of course, this won’t be on the ingredients list either! Instead, look for and avoid names like quaternium-15, DMDM hydantoin, imidazolidinyl urea and diazolidinyl urea.

It’s absolutely mind boggling. Sometimes I truly don’t know what to look for and what to avoid, because it seems we need a chemistry degree to have the ability to read between the lines (and I think manufacturers count on that)!

I have heard good things about both Gaia and Weleda, as well as the line of Burt’s Bees Baby (often much easier to find at a local retailer) but we’re currently giving Organix South TheraNeem a try! The kid’s Shampoo & Bodywash and Conditioner are in use and (as far as my “non-chemistry-degreed-self” can decipher!) they don’t contain any of these scary ingredients! I also find it fairly interesting that they seems to work wonderfully (and make our kids smell fabulously citrus-y) but they don’t foam-up as much as the common brands and aren’t nearly as thick… hmmm? A likely side effect of what happens when you remove some of the bad stuff!

I know it will take extra effort, but there are plenty of products out there that are safer options. If you have something you recommend, please share!

But whatever you do, don’t settle for the old stand-bys just because they’re easy to find and an ad campaign and some slick marketer appealed to your emotional side to sell a product. Believe me, I used to be one of “them” and things aren’t always as they seem.
Organic Products: TheraNeem Herbal Toothpaste

"I was pleasantly surprised that it did taste better than I expected. Plus, it wasn’t overpowering in the manner that some of today’s flavored toothpastes (lemon, vanilla, bubblemint) have become. This toothpaste is pleasant and mild to use so I suggest it for anyone who is looking for an organic option over other commercial brands of toothpastes. It leaves the teeth whiter and fresh tasting!

Unlike some toothpaste products, Thera Neem Herbal Toothpaste does not contain any fluoride, parabens, saccharin, Lauryl Sulfate, artificial colors, or artificial flavors. You can try out Thera Neem Mint Toothpaste or Thera Neem Cinnamon Toothpaste. Formulated by a cosmetic chemist, Thera Neem Herbal Toothpaste can be coupled with Thera Neem Herbal Mouthwash for an optimal oral routine."
Discover the Power of Neem

"A year after returning home from India, I was delighted to I discover TheraNeem products right here at a local natural foods store. The toothpaste and herbal mouthwash intrigued me, so I contacted the company, Organix South to let them know I was interested in reviewing some of their products. They were kind enough to send me quite an impressive "care package," which included the toothpaste and herbal mouthwash, as well as nail and cuticle scrub that contains lovely oils such as walnut, jojoba, and sweet orange, and samples of shampoo, conditioner, and soap. They also thoughtfully included a bottle of TheraVeda respiratory support supplement, after I had mentioned that I suffer from a chronic cough that lasts for months at a time. All of these products are vegan* and not tested on animals.

In an ongoing effort to seek out and discover bodycare products that are not only cruelty-free, but are also free of sulfates, parabens, and artificial sweeteners, colors, and flavors, I was delighted to read the ingredients list on both the Herbal Mouthwash and Toothpaste: Neem? Yes! Clove? Yes! Peppermint and Spearmint? Yes! All that other aforementioned yucky stuff? No! But how does it taste?

....

In a word: Natural. Because they're not filled with artificial flavorings or sweeteners, they have a refreshingly natural taste. After brushing and rinsing, my mouth feels clean and fresh. While I never learned to enjoy the simple pleasure of oral hygiene as a child, the adult me is finally at peace with her twice daily dental care ritual. I have the folks at Organix South to thank for that, and I look forward to trying all of the other wonderful TheraNeem and TheraVeda products."
